RHINELAND: FORTRESSES TO VILLAGES

The Rhineland, Germany stretches across a storied river valley where medieval fortifications and half-timbered villages hug the waterfront. In the historic enclave of Bacharach, traditional structures like the Hotel Restaurant Altkölnischer Hof, the ancient Altes Haus, and the Kurpfälzische Münze sit near St. Peter Kirche, the Steeger Tor gateway, and the picturesque corner of Im Malerwinkel.

Further along the banks, the town of Oberwesel reveals its local Rathaus, the distinctive Hotel Römerkrug, and the red-brick facade of the Liebfrauenkirche near the riverside Ochsenturm (Ox Tower).

The riverside settlement of St. Goar features the sprawling, elevated ruins of Rheinfels Castle overlooking the water channels. Tucked in the surrounding forested hills of Wierschem stands the hidden complex of Burg Eltz Castle. A sweeping perspective across the Rhine River ties this region together, capturing isolated strongholds like Burg Katz, Burg Gutenfels, and the island fortress of Pfalzgrafenstein Castle rising directly from the currents.
