NUREMBERG, GERMANY

MEDIEVAL NUREMBERG

Nuremberg, Germany displays its medieval legacy through the sprawling stone ramparts of the Imperial Castle, which overlooks the city's timber-framed layout. The bustling central market square features the Gothic spire of the Frauenkirche standing alongside the elaborate, gilded tiers of the Schöner Brunnen fountain. Piercing the sky nearby are the monumental twin towers of St. Lorenz Church (Lorenzkirche) and St. Sebaldus Church (Sebalduskirche). Down along the Pegnitz River, the historic Heilig Geist Spital cantilevers over the water near the timbered Weinstadel and the covered wooden span of the Henkersteg (Hangman's Bridge). Finally, traditional streetscapes reveal the colorful artisan half-timbering of Weißgerbergasse and the preserved brick facade of Albrecht Dürer's House.
