DUBROVNIK: OLD TOWN ARCHITECTURE

Dubrovnik, Croatia stands tall through grand views of its fortified stone strongholds bordered by the Adriatic Sea. The dramatic Pile Gate welcomes entry onto the polished stone layout of the Stradun, the Old Town's main thoroughfare. Ornate arches and columns mark the historic Rector's Palace, while the baroque architecture of the Church of St. Ignatius, St. Blaise's Church, and the Franciscan Church and Monastery line the city streets. Elevated viewpoints from the massive City Walls and the high bastion of Tvrđava Minčeta overlook the stone monuments, including the towering Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the Statue of Poet Ivan Gundulić. Finally, a high panoramic gaze from Mount Srd anchors the old town layout against the vast ocean horizon.
