NESEBAR

NESEBAR, BULGARIA

UNESCO World Heritage Site Nesebar (Nessebar), on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, is populated with Byzantine-era ruins along the Old Town’s cobblestone and flower-filled alleyways. Historical sites abound, topped by Saint Stephen’s Church, with frescoes on the exterior walls, as well as adorning every available space of the interior. Other noteworthy sites are the Church of Saint Sophia, with its stone columns and brick arches; the partially preserved Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel, the ornate stone facade of the Church of Christ Pantocrator; and the still active Church of Formation of Theotokos.
